Battleground: Crossbows & Catapults War Chest Starter Set

Sweet, someone’s basically republished the old Crossbows and Catapults set, complete with flying “you’ll shoot your eye out” battle carom goodness!  Slightly different rules, but the spirit is there.

Fatal Frame

Fatal Frame is one scary ps2 game.  It’s survival horror, only your enemies are ghosts.  And you’ve got an old camera instead of a gun.  And it’s dripping with traditional japanese horror tropes for the fan Ringu (or Kwaidan).  Just about the only thing that’s not exceedingly creepy is the english voice acting, and there’s no subtitle option.  But that’s also about the only reason one can stand to play it alone at night. In the dark.  Until the breeze from the floor vent flutters the curtain out of the corner of your eye one time too many…

Oh, and much of the history unfolds through diary entries and newspaper clippings you find, which is always a favorite for me.

as the blog says, If it’s never too early to read to your baby, it’s never too early to prepare her for graduate school.

Maybe the Treewitch knows why….

I managed to burn my finger a bit on a daring retrieval of fallen pizza toppings in the oven over the weekend.  and after doing the cold water and ice thing for a few minutes, was looking for something to do about it.  I remembered hearing something about elmers glue on the people’s pharmacy one weekend, so I tried it.  And damned if it didn’t work.

I spread a thick layer of elemers glue on the burn (which was small but was raising a blister), let it skin over, and left it there until it dried out.  the pain rapidly tapered off, and the blister went away.  weird, I tell you, but it’s now my favorite minor burn unguent.

The Mommies are being Too Loud!

That’s what the small daughter said to me the other night when some of her friends mothers came over for a scrapbook party with the wife, and it was bedtime for a little someone.

I suggested she ask them to be quieter, and she went in and said “you guys are being too loud and I can’t sleep!”  so they apologized and shut the door to the bonus room, and someone headed off to dreamland.
