Awesome photoshop friday-like take of old sf/fantasy favorites
Sometimes you just have to use the “does this make sense?” test when cooking.
“There was a mistake in a recipe for apple cake. Instead of calling for two pinches of nutmeg it said 20 nutmeg nuts were needed,” Matmagasinet’s chief editor Ulla Cocke told AFP…”
Stream them from The Classic Science Fiction Channel. Actually, I think they link over to Hulu.
I’ve been watching some classic BattleStar Galactica, and I’ve noticed a few amusing things.
- They actually do say “Frak”, but nowhere near as often as the new one.
- They spend a whole lot of time during viper/cylon raider dogfights showing a view of the viper pilot’s hand holding the joystick, and then pressing either the Turbo or the Fire button.
- There’s a third button on the joystick labelled IM, although so far no one’s seemed to use it, probably because the middle of a dogfight is no time to be text messaging your buds. (ok, wikipedia says it’s the go backwards button or something)
- The IM button seems to have a different label that’s much longer and doesn’t start with I or M sometimes but I haven’t been able to figure out what it says.
- Richard Hatch (Apollo, not the survivor guy) is a lefty and wears his blaster accordingly.
COMICS WITH PROBLEMS #25 - Treat Your Rifle Like a Lady
The Will Eisner M-16 U.S. Army Rifle Maintenance Booklet (1968)
A very funny webcomic (with a completed story) best summarized by the author at the start of the very first strip.
“Lord of the Rings is more or less the foundation of modern D&D. The latter rose from the former, although the two are now so estranged that to reunite them would be an act of savage madness. Imagine a gaggle of modern hack-n-slash roleplayers who had somehow never been exposed to the original Tolkien mythos, and then imagine taking those players and trying to introduce them to Tolkien via a D&D campaign.”
Someone else is doing a Star Wars episode 1 strip, Darth and Droids, with a similar style thing. The scene where the Qui-gon wants to search the meeting room for treasure is not to be missed (page 5).
The elfquest folks are posting all 30 years of Elfquest online. New ones go up every friday throughout the year.
That’s pretty darn cool.
